Aim High Mentoring
A leadership mentoring program for high school girls with Karen Murphy, CEO of the YWCA of Western Wayne County. This program provides fun learning activities and discussions that promote the development of professional skills for future growth and academic success!
ESL Program
A series of classes that will provide basic language skills to adults interested in expanding their vocabulary and understanding of the English language. Call (313) 561-4110 for class dates and times!
Head Start

A free pre-school program for children ages 2 ½ to 5. Full day and part day classes are available as well as home-based options. The YWCA currently operates in 7 different locations throughout Western Wayne County!

Great Start Readiness Program

A free pre-school program for 4 year-olds. Full day classroom and home based options available. Children learn marketable skills for socialization and teamwork for future academic growth. Monthly field trips and parent meetings provide families with opportunities to become involved in their child’s learning.
Professionals in Training

A mentoring program for young adult women, through the YWCA’s annual Women of Achievement Awards. Women of Achievement honorees are matched with outstanding young women throughout the community to provide extraordinary opportunities to develop marketable skills for a seamless transition from school to the workplace, while also empowering women to strive for their dreams!
Project: MENTOR
An adolescent mentoring program to empower youth to stay in school through improving self-esteem and relationship building. Regular meetings will consist of time for mentor bonding, activities and discussions relating to topics that adolescents face. This program empowers adolescents to become leaders in their school and community!
Summer Explorer Day Camp

An exciting summer program for youth ages 6-15. Campers enjoy swimming, arts and crafts, field trips and guest speakers! A Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is available to young adults ages 12-15 to provide leadership development and decision making skills. CITs are role models for younger campers and assist counselors in planning and implementing activities.
Young Friends

In-school support groups and after school programs that improve self-esteem, teamwork and leadership skills in youth and adolescents. Programs provide opportunities for future academic and personal growth through tutoring, socialization with peers and opportunities for civic involvement.
Economic Empowerment
Financial Classes
A series of classes, instructed by professionals, that promote the development and implementation of financial skills. Classes offer individuals the opportunity to increase their understanding of a variety of topics, including: budgeting, consolidation, credit/debt management, and investing. Individual Development Program (IDA)
A program that assists participants in improving their financial resources to achieve their financial goals of funding their continued education, buying a home or starting a small business. Participants learn valuable skills in money management and savings while working toward their financial goals.
The Suit Rack
A program that assists women who are displaced in the workforce to regain the skills, confidence and clothing they need to get them right back to where they belong! Participants are able to select a professional suit for interviewing, participate in resume building workshops, mock interviews and discuss career options with a Career Coach dedicated to their success!
Tax Prep Assistance
An annual program for individuals seeking assistance on their income taxes. Industry professionals provide expert advice and tips on receiving maximal returns. Income guidelines may apply for this service. Please call (313) 561-4110 for dates and times.
Crisis Support
End the Violence Initiative
A combination of support programs and community action programs to prevent and educate the community on the effects of domestic violence, sexual violence, elder abuse and violence in schools. The YWCA collaborates with several local school districts, colleges and community organizations to educate and prevent violence in the community. Programs include:

- Violence Prevention in the Classroom Series
- The Rhode Island Project
- The Clothesline Project

Parenting 101
A support group that allows parents to build relationships and learn from other parents. Participants learn valuable skills and tips on a number of topics, such as, teaching their children, discipline techniques, family planning, financial literacy and nutrition. Welcome Home Program
A referral program to assist women and their families in crisis situations. The YWCA has relationships with local shelters, food pantries, clothing distributors and community organizations that aid in providing assistance to families in need.
