Woman of the year - Beth Chappell
The YWCA of Western Wayne County recognized nine women for their outstanding accomplishments.
This was the 20th anniversary of the event and several former honorees attended
Keynote Speaker, Barbara McQuade, US Attorney for Wayne County, inspired the audience to persevere in opening doors for women in the community.
The YWCA unveiled a large Mosaic which will be displayed at the new YWCA headquarters building on Michigan Ave.

The following women were recognized as having achieved excellence in various categories.
- Communications/The Arts - Laila AlHusinni, Journalist;
- Business Leadership- Sandy Mull, Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber;
- Government/Law – Susan Rowe, Wayne City Council;
- Health & Wellness – Elizabeth Goch, Oakwood Health Promotions;
- Leadership in Education – Karen Donald, Community Advocate;
- Dedicated Volunteer –Sandy Boulton, Boulton & Associates;
- Young Woman/Professional – Chrishonda Smith, Trinity Health
- Senior Woman – Maggie Allesee, Community Activist;
The YWCA Women of Achievement event magnifies the mission of the YWCA by empowering women and eliminating racism through the rich history of many outstanding women who have been recognized and honored by the community for their contributions.
